Replacement NTL Remote Control

The RC for my NTL digibox is banjaxed. Looks like a short cirtuit on the 7 key (wasted a set of batteries on me too!)

NTL want me to either pay €25 or send back the broken one first before sending out a new one. That'll be a one-week round trip (plus postage) at least :(

Is it possible to buy a remote control anywhere that will run an NTL box or do I have to go through NTL?

I'm not certain, but I think most (although there are exceptions) ntl: boxes use a system more akin to IrDA instead of the more normal RC5/RC6 codes, so all-in-one remotes won't work.

There's a translator you can get, not sure how well it works though.

The newer boxes use IR, it was only the first one (large grey) that used IrDA.

25euro sounds cheap, most universal remotes start at 15euro! pay the extra 10 to avoid the 1 week delay?!

Send it back to NTL its their equipment they should replace/fix it.
I have done this before, ring them up and they will tell you where to send it.

If you compain enough you could try and get a smaller set top box, I tried this before but didn't work.

The small boxes look nice and neat, but the larger boxes seem to have less problems.

Thanks to all. I've decided to go with the official option and I'll send the broken remote back to NTL and wait for a new one.

Getting up off my arse to change channels every now and again turned out to be not such a huge issue! :) It's a little awkward to check the EPG but I can survive a week or so.

I have a spare remote but if you've already sent your one back, its no problem
