If you only have a phone line for BB and make a small amount of calls , say €3-5 a month ( €6-10 per bill for calls inc VAT) , then save yourself the line rental increase by ringing eircom 1901 and asking to be put on the Vulnerable User Scheme .

Vulnerable by definition is that you make very few calls .

    You're wrong.
Since pensioners get free line rental courtesy of the dept of social and family affairs, all they pay for is their calls.
The vulnerable user scheme is for people who live alone or who may only use the phone as an emergency point of contact, hence there is a protection for those users from relatively large bills.

    from the eircom site:

    eircom vulnerable user scheme

If you are currently spending less than €10 (inc VAT) each month on calls you may wish to join the eircom vulnerable user scheme which entitles you to the first €5 (inc VAT) worth of calls free. However, this scheme will not suit you if your bill is over €10 (inc VAT) per month as call rates double after €5 (inc VAT).

    User/Vulnerable User Scheme

Monthly spen €10 (inc VAT)or less on calls You get the first €5 (inc VAT) free calls The following €6.01 (inc VAT) charged at double standard rates. Each call after that standard rates apply. All figures are inclusive of VAT. To sign up to this scheme please ring 1901 and say "Sales Enquiry" and then say "Other Request"

What calls are eligible for the vulnerable user scheme?

Local, national, mobile and international calls are eligible.

Who can avail of vulnerable user scheme?
    • ISDN customers cannot avail of this scheme as the vulnerable user scheme is a PSTN product.
    • If you are currently on another eircom discount scheme you must cancel that to avail of the vulnerable user scheme instead.
    • Customers who are with another operator are not eligible for the vulnerable user scheme.

Seriously, stop trying to give advice/information when you know nothing at all.
