    Hi All,

I've just purchased a scooter, an LML 125. I've never had a scooter or bike before and am looking for some advice. I need to buy some gear including a helmet. Everyone I've spoken to who has a bike has advised to get as good a helmet as I can afford. So i can spend about 200- 250 eur on one.

I would like to get a flip-up helmet as I wear glasses and they are quite convenient for that. Can anyone recommend or suggest a website that I could look at to get one. Or would I get better value in the shops here? Also any advice on a make. I know Shoei are very good but a bit outside my price range.

Any other advice about gear is very welcome also as I am a complete newbie to two wheels and want to remain safe first and foremost!

    Thanks.

For flipup helmets - Nolan and Caberg do some nice ones.

    For Caberg see http://www.thevisorshop.com

Not sure about an online store for Nolan.

However it's best to try one on before you buy, I got my caberg at one of the shows here last year so I don't know where you'd be able to try one on.

have to say my caberg is great (only problem is the visor can open a few mill at high speeds, higher that what youll get on the scoot so dont worry)
Not sure if you based in Dublin but bikeworld have a good few to try on, but they are cheeper to buy online

you can get the Nolan N102 helmet in Hein Gericke in newry.... or at least try one on. Tis a class helmet. Specially the sun visor bit. Also comes with pinlock visor.
You can get em online at www.fc-moto.de (got mine from there)

Definatly try the model you intend to buy before commiting online. I've had a helmet that fitted perfectly well, but recently added a intercom set. That extra couple of mill has me getting headaches if i wear it for any lenght of time, so a perfect fit is a must. Believe me, there is nothing worse that too tight a helmet, too loose and you may as well not be wearing one.

    Hi All,

Great advice - all appreciated. I did the whole head measurement thing as recommended on lots of websites (60cm - which is large according to most sites). I might do as suggested though - try one on in a shop and then see if I can get it cheaper online.

    Thanks all.

Dont go by measurements. You need to try the helmet you are buying on.
For example, I tired an AGV helmet one time, and it was so uncomfortable on me you wouldnt believe. It was the right size, but didnt fit my shape of head.

Definately try one on in a shop first.
