I was there for 3 weeks last year. Loved the south around Saigon and Dalat and Muine, didn't much like Hanoi, but Sapa was nice too.
Depends totally on what you want to do , how long you want to go for and how much you have to spend really. It's cheap to travel in - can get 2 litres of bia hoi (local fresh beer) for around a euro or so in Saigon, can get a big feed of pork and veg and rice for another euro, accomodation in a decent guesthouse is around a tenner a night or so for a decent room with tv and en-suite.
Muine is a beach resort, beautiful water. a lot of kitesurfing there too.
Where are you flying into/out of? Would recommend getting yourself a rough guide and reading up on it to be honest.
