this has prob been discussed to death on this forum, and I have done a bit of searching as regards to my questions, but not all the questions are answered or only partially.

What with the 60g ps3 going for €365 in the US, it seems like a lot of the probs you may have with importing one can be over looked but there are still some important issues that I am unclear on, advice would be very welcome.

    1. I know that first party PS3 games are not region-locked but I have heard that third-party (GTA IV, UT3) may be region locked? Also that PS1 and PS2 games bought in a PAL region will not work, but will they work with an action replay disc/card ? (same goes for DVD's)

    2. Will the fact that the console is non-pal effect the way it will work with a TV purchased in Ireland ?

    3. Will the network connection be compromised due to the fact that it was bought in the US ?

    4. Is it easy or hard to get games imported from the states ?

and finally does anyone actually have a PS3 from the states, and how is it getting on ?

2 IIRC, unless the TV is rather old, it shouldn't be a problem.

    3. No.

    4 Pretty easy.

for an extra 135euro you can get a pal ps3 with motorstorm, resistance and a second controller...this pack is already available at komplett but dont think its available in stores..

It cheaper to get games from the States.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is the power. The US PS3 would run at 120volts but our sockets are at 230v (or somewhere at that figure) and seeing as how the PS3 power unit is inbuilt you'd have to get a plug adaptor or possibly a transformer. Now I know nothing of these things but it might be something you'd want to look into.

Im in the states at the moment and am goin to pick one up next week, as soon as i get paid.

I can tell u that all u need for the power supply is a standard plug like the one in a kettle.

The ps3 uses 110v and 240v so it will be fine.

Only problems are bluray are region encoded, but can be bought off the net. All the games out so far are region free and should be in future.

Another problem is the online for some (only some like resistance) it will connect to the US networks. Most of the online u can chose ur region.

They patched resistance recently so you can connect to servers worldwide.

It may still happen in some other games however, not entirely certain.

All PS3 games from all parties are region free. PS1/PS2 games are region encoded so you won't be able to play your old games. Same goes for Blu Ray movies - you'd need to import.

www.videogamesplus.ca is probably your best bet for importing stuff from the US(well, technically Canada) if needs be.

Yeah videogamesplus.ca are excellent alright. Easily €20 cheaper for PS3 games than retailers. Pre-ordered GTA IV for around €50 with them incl postage. That will be minimum €70 / €75 when it hit the shops here.
