ok, I was just on the phone with Luke and he gave me permission to mention that he'll be opening a new club where the Merrion used to be.

It'll be pretty soon and I for one am delighted. Best news I've heard all week.

    I love positive gossip! :D

Bit irronic really when you consider the partners in the fitz used to like to posture that one of the reasons they opened the fitz was because The Merrion had treated them (Luke Included) so badly.

Same ownership? Building worth Telephone no's doubt if anyone has bought / sold it.

    Good news though:)

The building was never owned by the Collosus/Merrion, they just had a lease.

Regardless of anyones feeling about this, it will be great for us as playa's and Dublin poker in general to have another card club to play in.

By club does this mean a pokerclub or a casino in which Luke will run a pokerroom? What is that building being used for these days anyway? I thought it was owned by 2 English dentists who told the Merrion to get out and were planning on selling it.

Surely a property like that would need a casino rather than a cardroom to make the lease financially viable. And if it's a casino it's a crazy time to sign a lease on a property like that and start one up given the fact that new legislation and limited licences are on the horizon.

i was talking to a guy at a wedding a couple of weeks ago, and he told me luke was setting up his own place, i just thought it was idle gossip, esp. since we were both hammered. good to hear it was actually true!

Was talking to the man himself a couple of weeks ago. His words were "my own place" so I suspect he'll be running the whole club - whether it's just poker or casino. (personally, I can't see it being just poker)

I'm delighted to hear this too. I'd be amazed if it was under the merrion branding. Plenty of parking as well around the area which is a big thing. This is bad news for the Fitz I think, but I will still be going in there as well as Lukes new place and the SE as well, and I may even get round to going to the Jackpot at some point, but I am a lazy creature of habit.

It'll be interesting to see how many staff/customers switch from the Fitz.

Good to have the man back in the game.
