Ok, so ive set one up to buy stuff of ebay, Im going explain things and I basically need people on here who are experienced with this to tell me if im right!?

    Ok so:

    1. Ive entered my credit card number, so now when I go to buy stuff of ebay it will charge to my card?

2.Ive entered my Bank Account number, so now when I sell stuff it will go to paypal then I can put into my bank account or leave it there to use it again?

3.Is there anyway I can pay money into paypal from my bank account?

EG I want to buy a 1100 monitor, credit card limit is 1000, I have the money for the monitor in my bank account. Can I transfer it over no?

    Cheers :)

    1. You will have to wait for Paypal to deposit a small amount to your cc account, the number will appear on your cc statement in a few days (could be longer) and you enter that into the Enrollment program. That will verify your account and there won't be any limits on it. Right now there is a limit (not sure how much)

    2. You can do either of those as far as I know.

    3. No, not for Irish bank account holders at this time.

Are these the limits your talking about?

    https://www.paypal.com/ie/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_show-limits

So once I get that code, I just enter it in and all the limits are gone? Does this cost me money?

Can I buy items before I get the code?

I think you can still buy things however, you will show up as 'Unverified' and not alot of sellers will accept bids or payment from people like that. Once you get your code, pop it in and you are away. Paypal charges a small amount to your card (think it is $1.99 or something?). If you have online banking, check it every once in a while for the code.

Yea I have to set that up tomorrow!

You only get one code? Your just saying that so I can get it quicker than the statement in the post?

That small fee is then refunded to you when you are verified I think. When you get started be sure to check peoples feedback/items sold history every time, when buying or selling. Beware of scams and remember the golden rule, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Happy ebaying to you. :)

Absolutely. We've lost too many good men to fake Western Union related deals! :p

Be very wary of sellers that dont accept paypal.

Also be wary of sellers with an e-mail address in their ad. They are usually stolen accounts and they don't want you to use the contact seller option from e-bay.

Wasn't there some guy who managed to sell a cardboard mac on ebay?

Oh and make sure you are actually buying the item that is listed i.e if it's a monitor, check and double check to listing to make sure it is a monitor.

The amount of people who get caught out buying those 'police auction' ebooks and other such crap is just unreal, you wouldn't believe it.

Also be careful about reading the descriptions fully, i think that thing with the mac was that the guy advertised the packaging but it looked like a mac would be inside. Most of the bidding happens in the last hour of a week long auction, don't bid too early as this just pumps up the price. Good luck!

The one I most worried about is the graphics card, as its in america shipping and taxes and all that, would it not better for me to get it for 580 here?

The whole idea with ebay is to get a bargain, if you will end up paying the same price in a shop here either do that or find a cheaper auction. The total cost of the card should just be the final bid and shipping cost to Ireland. With purchases such as that I would generally try and find a cheap price in a shop, its just alot easier should anything go wrong with the card or the seller try and mess you around.

Also do I have to sign up for that enrollment thing to get the code or does it automatically go straight on the statement when I sign up?

If theres money in the account say 300, and I have a limit of 1000 on the credit card, does that mean I can spend up to 1300 using paypal?

Yes you will need to sign up for the enrollment. You can get the code off your online card statement in a few days after you enroll.

I would think that the amount you can charge to the card is its own limit. So 1000 in your example case.

but if theres money in the paypal account already from someone else buying something off me and paying through that will it add to the limit on the card?

If im making no sense sorry lol

Interesting question, I cant really give you an answer as I rarely hit the cards limit or sell expensive items. Im sure you could find out somewhere on the paypal site?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

The guy I want to buy the lense off is telling me he sends all his stuff by RMSD?

    Royal mail Standard deliver?

Ah sure it doesn't really matter about the monitor price, im going to be getting the limit on the credit card put up.

Thanks for all the help so far lads :)

If your PayPal account is UnVerified there will be a sending limit in place which may cause you a problem - the sending limit is removed by making your account Verified.

Once you've done that you can spend whatever you have, if you have a limit on your card of €1000 obviously you can only spend that much but if there is money already in the PayPal account it will use that first and then take the remaining balance from your card.

Plus you can always transfer money from your bank account to your credit card to bolster the credit card's "limit"..
