A warning and bit of a plea

I mentioned this on another thread but I want to give fair warning to everyone here. I was in Heuston station at the weekend, coming back to Limerick after a weekend in Meath. I had almost all of my airsoft gear with me as I usually stow it in my parents place but I was bringing it back (half of the reason I was home in the first place). It was all packed in an OD molle backpack and a sports bag. The majority of it was in the molle pack, which was lifted from beneath the seat I was sitting on. I haven't a notion how it happened, all I know is when I reached under the seat to grab it, it was gone.

Security were good but they could do nothing. I didn't expect them to be able to anyway. I don't honestly expect to see any of the kit in the bag again but I'm posting this as a warning. I'm normally pretty cautious in places like stations with my bags, particularly if it's containing what could be viewed as "sensitive" things, but whoever this guy (or girl) is, they now own about 700 bucks worth of airsoft stuff so be careful! I doubt they knew what they were grabbing, but they did leave the sports bag which was arguably an easier pick.

Anyway, just be careful out there when you're moving kit in public, it's a holy b**** to try to recoup that loss

700? Jesus christ that's rough. :( I'm usually paranoid transporting gear and I think you're after making me worse.

You should put up a list alright. It's a long shot but you never know.

Yeah that's a good idea, hadn't thought of that. Thanks lads.

ACU - Jacket and pants, Medium
Swedish pattern uniform - Shirt and pants, Medium (brand new, pants are still in plastic wrap)
Guarder MOLLE plate carrier - OD, radio pouch on back right shoulder, 2 rifle mag pouches, 2 pistol mag pouches, dump pouch
    Viper belt order - Black
Motorola XTN 446 radio - Black, probably still has a throat mic attached
    3 CA G36 Hi-cap mags
    1 G&P 3300mAh mini battery
2 Neoprene facemasks - Black, half face
2 Uvex ANSI certified goggles - Grey/black, marked "Dex" on top flange of both
MOLLE Backpack - OD, namestrip on right side marked "Dex", Marine subdued Master Gunnery Sergeant patch on front.

I think there's a few more bits but thats the most of it. That I can think of anyway. I don't expect to get any of it back but it would be nice. Especially since all I have left now is a G36 with a box mag, a P99 and some desert "choc chip" camo. Not the most practical camo for the Irish climate.

I hope they totally freak out when they open the bag and think they've stolen something from a soldier.

Your full name and address on any of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

There may be a name plate still inside the pack and dog tags in the ACU cargo pocket. But nothing with a full name and address

Just remembered. There may be a programmable radio transciever in there too, I'm not certain if I left that in the bag or in my parents place and there's noone there to call for a few days to check.

Danm thats horrible man, sorry to hear that, il keep an eye out for advirtisments.

its probably alyays a good idea to mark your equipment, I always put a unique mark on my stuff so i know it is (or was) mine, somewhere not noticable unless you already knew it was there.

Its happening on Irish Rail for years. They steal the bags from the baggage compartments by the toilets as well. Never leave anything of value out of sight. Worst thing is it is probably not even saleable - I mean its pretty specialist gear and would hardly fetch much.

I'm actually a little more concerned with it showing up on some VT on the news saying a robbery was commited by people wearing full combat gear and some face masks that I am of it showing up for sale in a market or ebay. Especially since my name is on some of the gear.

****, that is such a pisser.

Whenever I am sitting on the train I keep my bag clenched between my feet or an ankle through the arm strap, that way no one can grab it without you knowing.

Sorry I'm a bit late adding to this, but sympathies Dex...thats a total pain.

Good call on posting whats missing too...we're still a pretty small community, and you never know - someone might get offered some of your kit or see it advertised.

I've been mugged, robbed, beaten up, pick pocketed and held at syringe point in my time.

You learn that paranoia is merely an active defence :D

    My deepest sympathies Dex

They Probably wont turn up at the likes of the Market Saturday
but it would be no harm to Keep an eye out.

Was at the Market last Saturday in Limerick and there was a Northern Irish Bloke
selling AEG Pistols. There were cheap and nasty and very toylike
ones but it made me wonder if he had anything better in the back
    of his truck.

May be worth giving the guys that run Combat Zone a bell too
to see if any of your stolen equipment might be offered
to them or someone might turn up to try paintball dressed
    in some of your gear.

Was on the Train to Cork a few weeks back and they had
Cameras on the train, Any luck with getting any CC TV Footage ?

No this was before I made it onto the train. Security said there was nothing to speak of.

Thanks for all the words lads. I appreciate the eyes but I don't expect anything. Op Fahrenheit and Ground Zero are now off my radar though, that's one of the biggest killers for me.

Time to start building up my gear again I guess.
