How to create library or backup music from music already stored on Ipod Nano?

Okay first off I'm a complete luddite so apologies in advance for any questions which may seem ridiculous to those who are slightly more HI-tech....

Heading off on my travels soon and a friend very kindly uploaded a load of music from their computer onto my newly-purchased Ipod nano.

I have since learned that if and when I now go to add more tunes and plug in my Ipod I run the risk of wiping everything that's saved on it already. As the music was copied from a friends computer to which I do not now have access I'll be left essentially music-less ( my own music collection is in a word - limited!).

Also if do get this first bit sorted, do I then face this same problem every time I try to charge my Ipod via PC's in internet cafés etc?

    All advice greatly welcome!

    Aura :)

This question has been answered numerous times before. I suggest you READ THE FAQ.

To back up what's on your iPod, use a program like iPod->Folder (see http://www.longfingers.com/ipodfolder/ )

As regards connecting to iTunes and not losing your music, you need to set iTunes to NOT synchronise. This has been covered in a number of threads. - this one for example: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055102771

Tried the ipod - folder program suggested and am getting following message

"Windows is unable to read drive e; Make sure there is a disk in the drive and that the disk is formatted and free of errors"

    Help?
