Hi,as well as having a Dell deminsion 4500 , with xp i also have a Gateway pentium2 with windows 98.
Is it possible to install xp on this ,as i hope to buy a router to share my wireless broadband connection.
Would it work ok with 98.
I download a lot of music and watch videos on line, so the gateway would be just for internet.

    Minimum requirements for XP:

PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended
1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*
Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor

It might barely run, but i highly doubt it. It certainly wouldnt be able to cope with streaming video and doubt it has the hard drive capacity for downloading music. Not worth the cost of XP.

It might be okay, how much RAM has the gateway?

Might be cheaper to buy a second hand clunker with XP preinstalled than to buy a retail license to put on it. Buying an upgrade for that machine would be a waste of money since the license would be bound to the machine.

Pentium 2 + 128MB + XP = painfully slow - it's about base spec for windows 2000 as long as you don't want to run a lot of stuff on it.
