    Hi all,

I have recently been given the task of boosting sales within the department where I work.

Do any of your companies have sales competitions or other incentives for staff to try and increase sales?

I have come up with a few different sales competitions and prizes but they haven't attracted a great amount of interest.. (the primary job of the staff is customer information not sales and they do not make outbound calls - customers call in to them. )

I think that I need to add an element of fun to the competitions but I have no idea where to start.

If any of you can give me a suggestion, I would appreciate it.

down through the years I alway found a holiday to be the best incentive (far better than additional commission believe it or not!)

You could either do it as:

    a) Everyone over the target (inflated for the competition) get taken away to the likes of Barcalona for 3-4 nights all expenses in a decent hotel

    b) Everyone over the target gets €1500 to spend on a holiday (give 3 days annual leave aswell) .. not in vouchers, but they pick the holiday and the company pays for it.

The lure of a few days off and an expense free trip does wonders !!

Isnt doing holidays an issue with taxman? This is one of the reasons why vouchers are used by companies as they dont have to declare it.

Thats the key to prizes - off radar but flexible prizes. A car/moped is a great prize, but depends on the numbers involved!

The key to incentives is to understand what makes your staff tick, different levels of staff have different factors that drive them, younger sales members usually prefer money, maybe request suggestions or offer different incentives, options, choose a or b. Maybe even go with a group incentive prticularly where team work is important.

    That’s the €64,000 question!

I have found in the past that cash is king – in most places.

That aside – there are other ways. For example – you could split them into teams (if no already) and make it a pride thing - challenge each other.

Individually it difficult, age, gender – all varies.
