Looking to start Judo in Galway, any recommendations? I know NUIG has a club but I'm not a student.

There is an abundance of good Judo schools in Galway. I recommend contacting the college club and if they can't look after you they could put you on to someone who could. Or you could try Jonny Creavan in Creavan House in Claddagh, that is a long running Judo Club that should suit you.

No offence Mairt and not wanting to get into a political mess here but there are some excellant Judo clubs in Galway city and county that are not in the IJA. Tony Allen runs Oranmore Judo club, James Connolly runs the Castlegar club and Kevin Lally runs a number of different classes in different venues, as well as the aforementioned clubs. They all have a high standard of instruction and are really sound guys, so I would suggest going to the venues/times that suit you best.

From what some of the Judo guys have told me NUIG club can be a bit standoffish if you're not a student.

There are plenty of good judo clubs in galway, some are IJA and some are Judo Ireland. They both do the same sport, no difference. Try which ever one is most convenient, if you don't like it, try the next one.

Hey Buck65, don't know if Tony has an e-mail address but the club is usually closed during the late summer months but they train Wed and Fri from early Sept on, with the juniors starting at 6.30pm.

    Absolutely no offence taken Dave.

I'm not involved in Judo Ireland so I wouldn't have a clue where to start if I was to give pointer's for J.I. clubs.

But thanks for pointing those club's out too.
