    Hi,

myself and a friend are planning a fortnights road trip around california and nevada in the end of august. We'll be renting a car on arrival, I'm looking into booking it now. My mate's 24 which is causing a few head aches already.

Does anybody have any experience/tips/recommendations? Rental companies they used etc?

    Thanks if you can help,

I'm heading to Cali with a friend of mine at the start of Sept. We booked it through trailfinders they also organised a car rental with a company called alamo. I'm 26 though. It's costing €409 to rent a midsize 2 door for the 2 weeks which I thought was very good.

Hey! I rented a car in California when I was 21. So, like you guys, I had to steer clear of places that only rented to over 25s etc. We rented from Enterprise (www.enterprise.com). They are a reputable company, offered us a good price and were very helpful. Would rent from them again. They seemed to have offices all over California! Oh, and they rent to over 21s!!

Make sure you and anyone else you want to drive has a credit card.

Myself and missus rented with Avis last March for a week.
Got a nice Pontiac 3.7 litre, great ummmmph but God it drank fuel in cities.

One piece of advice is get GPS, you can hire with major rental firms or bring your own and have download USA maps onto it.

Trying to negotiate freeways and roads around LA and San Fran would have been a nightmare otherwise.
I have done roadtrips aournd the world, but the highway and freeway systems in California are unlike anything experienced anywhere else.

I am not allowed discuss …
