Saturday morning tv show in the 80's

Does anyone remember back in the 80's on Saturday mornings on RTE 2 they used to have the children's show with Pat who used to have a hat on his head with the telephone? I can remember being about 5 years old and watching this.

The reason I'm asking is because I have a very longlasting memory of a segment they used to have, whereby he would pretend to use his phone in his hat to call down these dummy figures from the ceiling that were lowered down by ropes and when they came down it was to organ sounding music - don't know about you but this absoulutely used to terrify me! I'm particularly asking someone who may have been a little bit older but may remember this show and tell me what the hell that segment was all about?

Can't remember that bit, but the show had pat ingoldsby and he used to have a talking spider (spindle) and a talking cabbage (savage cabbage). I remember the telephone on his head as well but the memories are rather fuzzy.

Why did he remind you of earwax? I think he got caught with smoke a good few years back. that show was on at the same time as pajo's junk box. a northside dublin rat with a mohawk. only in ireland

On the subject of Saturday Morning TV, does anyone remember the show Angus McAnally used to present?? Was 20yrs ago or a bit more :(

Regarding Pat Ingoldsby, I can remember Pat's Hat, Pat's Chat and Pat's Pals; all of which refelected his eccentricities. Think he was caught with a bit of dope alright a few yrs ago, and didnt he have some big dispute with his neighbour over a hedge or someting too??

Yup, I remember anything goes. Didn't Aonghus make a big deal out of wearing odd socks at the time as a gimmick? How easily we were impressed!

I think he even had clothes that were two tone: a different colour on each side?

you're right enough i seem to remember he'd have a red shoe with yellow sock on one side and vice versa on the other. And a bit of an afro maybe... or maybe it was just big 80's hair

He spent the weekend in our Gaeltacht years ago, and my father was disgusted to see him attending mass with red/yellow trousers (he said "you'd think the lad would have a bit of respect!").

Does anyone remember a Saturday morning show (late 80's, very early 90's) where they had this old guy with fuzzy hair and a moustache come on and tell a wacky story, his catch phrase was ''believe it, if ya like"! And then he'd wink at you!

    Was it scrap saturday?
