Mains Water - Right angle join/bend

    Hi,

Can anyone advise if at a place where a mains water 3/4" copper pipe turns
at an immediate right angle, it is acceptable to use a welded join , rather than a continous pipe with a formed bend?

Background is just bought new apartment, and mains water coming into the apt sprung a leak at such a welded join, and it seems crazy to me to have water at that pressure running at a right angle join that is welded like that, rather than a longer continous piece that has a bend put into it.

    Cheers.

The only disadvantage of having the 90 bend is that you will have pressure drop (very slight) owing to the increased flow resistance.

When you say welded, I assume that you mean a soldered copper fitting. It was most unfortunate, it sprung a leak.

Go after the plumber with a blowtorch and offer to show him how to apply heat properly:D
