    Hi all.

I was down in Rosgreen yesterady at a classic car show and I was in the tower changing a lense when someone opened the door and a load of dust came in.

You'll never guess but the camera is stink after it.

Anyone know where I can get it cleaned in Cork? I really don't fancy sending it off as it'll probably takes ages to get the bloody thing back.

I don't fancy cleaning it myself. Not yet anyway.

    FYI its a EOS 400d.

After searching some time ago, I didn't find anywhere in Cork I could get a cleaning done. In fact looking back on it, some of the advice given to me wasn't only dangerous, it was downright idiotic.

I was told that blowing into the chamber with compressed air would be fine, using a thin nozzle on a vacuum cleaner would be grand, cotton wool buds (with nothing on them) would do the trick and various other things that made my face turn a deathly shade of white. The long and short of it is, either send it to Canon or have someone like ISS in Dublin do it. Either way you're going to be without your camera for a couple of weeks and it's probably going to cost the bones of 60 quid (+ VAT + shipping both ways)

I'm guessing if you need it profesionally cleaned, the amount of dust you got into it has overwhelmed the onboard cleaning mechanism...

After all of the above, I decided to start cleaning my own sensors with copper hill kit and have been doing so for quite some time now with no ill effects. Cheaper, easier and means you're not missing your camera for weeks on end. It might be worth checking out if theres a copper hill kit suitable for your camera's sensor. If you do decide to get the kit, I'd be more than happy to meet you and give you a demo on how it works and give your camera a first cleaning.

    Oh and welcome to boards!

    Thanks!

I'll take you up on that if you don't mind. What do you think of this kit (with E2 as that's what everywhere seem to recommend for the 400d)?

Or would it be worth the extra for the one with the cleaning brush?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm new to all this stuff. The best camera I had before this was my phone.

very posh kits.. All I got was the pec pads in a pack of 100, the eclipse fluid and the sensor swab. Bear in mind that each cleaning will use anything up to 5/6 pec pads so if you only get a pack of 10 or 20, you'll be ordering more very soon!

Hi. I'm finally after getting around to ordering the cleaning gear for the camera. I was hoping the offer still stands?
