    Hi,

Im wondering if this is possible, we got a DVD disk with a slide show of our photos. As far as I can make out it is has been made with photodex software. I have tried doing a few Screen shots of the images but the quality ends up bad.
When I explore the disk on the pc I have 2 folders; A Video folder & an Audio folder, these are for the DVD as far as I know, then there’s an .exe file, this is the photodex application that autoruns when it’s in the pc, its about 120mb. So I think the photos are imbedded in this also, We cant get in touch with the photographer as he has emigrated !
Any help would be greatly appreciated…….

Haven't used photodex, but I'd imagine that it's going to be difficult to get a good quality image from a slideshow when possibly the primary focus was to protect the images from theft. If the idea of the slideshow was that it was to be played back on TV and then pick your images from it, I'd say it's probably likely low res images were used in it, or the photodex software has compressed and/or resized the photos to suit. Very poor form on the part of the photographer to be completely uncontactable. Surely he has an email address or something where he can be contacted?

I'd imagine the programme used was ProShow. When making a DVD with ProShow it gives you the option to include the original pics. It doesn't seem to have been done in your case.

Use ProShow Gold all the time to make slideshows and the reason I use it is because of the above.

Proshow uses PE-File Encryption the basically means you can't get the images out of the file by using a decompiler/ResourceHacker.

Get in contact with the photographer again. Hey even if he has emigrated it's a digital world now it only takes an e-mail.

ok wait a sec I'll be nice. This is the only way to get anything out of the slideshow thats usable.

Find someone with a monitor (CRT) that goes up to a crazy resolution lets say 2560x1600 like the apple 30" or whatever you can. Play back the slideshow in full screen and use a screen capture utility which has auto naming and hotkeys.

as each shot goes by capture it to file. Now in a photo editor up the resolution to 300DPI.

EDIT: capture file format = uncompressed JPEG or BMP

you can limit the resolution of the slideshow in proshow, screen grabs are the best you will get.
