Ghouls'n Ghosts - Mame Compo Round 3

15-07-2007 4:03pm#1Compo for the next two weeks is Ghouls'n Ghosts.
* Use any version of Mame (current is u.117xx)
* Use Ghouls'n Ghosts (World) version - filename ghouls
* Starts Sunday 15th of July and ends on Sunday 29th July
* The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible.
* Post screenshots (not too big, suggest 320x200).
* Scores will be tracked here.
* Don't cheat - what's the point anyway!
STORY:
Ghouls'n Ghosts (c) 12/1988 Capcom.
Three years have passed since the events of "Ghosts n' Goblins" and Arthur the knight once again finds himself battling against the hideous creatures of Demon World. The demons have now seized the kingdom and Arthur returns home to witness the castle's lone survivor, his beloved Gunievere, murdered by the king of the demons, Lucifer. Arthur once again embarks on a one-man quest to destroy the demonic invaders and save Gunievere's mortal soul.

It's tough but not impossible with practice, lots of practice. You might be better off going through the game with unlimited credits because there is some nasty platforming later on that you should learn to get through.
Some tips:
Best weapon in the game are the daggers. They are like the Gn'G machine gun and the golden armour charge effectively doubles firepower. The starting lances are pretty decent as well. Avoid the Golden Sword and the Fire Bombs.
Presevere past the first boss, in typical Capcom style he is a real baptism of fire and gets me every now and again since he is so unpredictable.
The collapsing bridges in the second level are a nightmare. Couldn't believe I got through that section first time when I played it again, I had memorised the whole section nd still remembered it You can survive falling through all the gaps except the ones directly over the middle of the sand pits. Make a decentjump over this and you survive.
Red Demons are bastards. I find the best way to deal with them is to jump backwards away from them and shoot like crazy when the charge. If they are on the ground jump and fire a shot over their head and on the way down fire one at them, they should dodge the direct shot and run into the first shot on the way up.
The rest of the game is just practice. The tongue section in level 3 is nasty and the whole of level 4 is rock hard. Level 5 will give you te fear.

The hitbox on them is very small. Just keep running straight and duck or jump over them. It might look like you will get hit but they are easily avoided. I never get hit by them now. Going to have another blast at this.

The swords short range will get you murdered every time. I'm also sure that you can't kill the level 3 or 4 boss with it. Useless compares to the barrage of fire you can lay down with the daggers. Had another go and I'm getting worse at this. Started getting greedy with chest collecting and paid for it.

I'm right at the end of Koudelka but for the last 5 days somebody has taken over my computer room so looks like I'm playing this tonight as well :mad:
Slightly better again. Lost all my lives on level 4 except one when my stupid computer decided to minimise mame by itself during the third level :mad:
