Basically my iAudio went tits up. The HDD failed and now I have no music.

Now Cowon have left Europe afaik. So you can no longer get the models anywhere. Which is rather annoying.

So I was wondering does anyone know of similar players that just work using the drag and drop style?

If not, what is a good player that will work well in both linux and windows?

    Thanks,
    Matthew

Cowon haven't left europe, many online retailers sell their products, like the fantastic D2.

Anyhoo what capacity do you need matthew?minimum vs max

Peats told me they had left. Very odd.

Well i'd be looking at something around 30 gigs. Good battery life is a plus.

    Price range €350 or so

there's the ipod with rockbox, (although battery life gets reduced)

or a toshiba gigabeat F40, again using the rockbox firmware.

    Another X5 maybe?

Most new players coming out are flash based so their capacities are relatively low, the highest so far is 16gb (but that's the cowon D2 with an SDHC card inserted)

just thought of something, when peats told you they'd left, maybe they meant that cowon had stopped producing the X5, which is true: http://www.dapreview.net/comment.php?comment.news.3959

That could have been it. Crossed wires and all that jazz.

Cowon no longer have a service centre in Europe for repairing user-damaged or out of warranty product; you have to send to Korea for repairs now. If the product is faulty under warranty however you bring back to the store that you bought it in. This was only ever a service centre - Cowon have never had a sales office in Europe and products are still sold through distributors to retailers; albeit a select few!

Try the iRiver clix2, all around great specs, feautures and good looks to boot. Very reasonably priced too.

I think the D2 will be released with 16gig soon (or has been) add to that a sd (or which ever type it takes) card and you got a nice small player with lots of storage.
