Right, Basically I'm trying to update my friends PSP to firmware version 3.03, but it won't work. I've done this many times. I put the eboot file in PSP/GAME/UPDATE then I went to game>memory stick>3.03 update

But the update boots up and then It says "The game could not be started (80020148)

The current firmware is 2.6
The UPDATE folder is in block capitals.
The eboot file is called EBOOT.PBP
I have tried with and without a UMD inside

Any ideas?

try downloading the eboot again.
could have been a corrupt download.

also is it dark alex firmware or just a regular?

Try Network Update perhaps? And are you trying to downgrade? Where did you get the update and can you find it on another UMD Game you own?

I'm trying to upgrade 3.03 so that I can downgrade 1.5, I've tried with GTA:LCS unpatched and PES5. I think the psp is screwed as recovery mode will not work.
