Was up there today and on around the 6th hole the rain got too bad so we called it a day. The owner was there and actually gave us a card marked complimentary for the next time we go up. Not many would do that. Lovely course and a nice one to practice the short game on

haven't played that course for a year or more. But would agree that it is a lovely course, and the owner is a really sound bloke.

    *bump*

Does any know if they have club hire at the course?

    yep, they do.

yep, as Dave says. Think its Pat and Angela that own it. Couldn't meet two nicer people.
Really tough to play well there as some of the greens are small.

    Thats great, cheers.

I've read a good few posts that say the people who run the place are fantastic. Always nice to hear.

I went to Athgoe Par 3 today for the first time after reading some reviews here.
I only had a wedge and putter as I was actually on my way to play pitch and putt but on a whim I decided to try out Athgoe and hire some clubs.
When I got there the owner came out to greet me and asked had I been there before. When I told him that I hadn't, he gave me advice on what clubs I would need and then lent me a 5, 7, 9 and a golf-bag to carry it all as a complimentary introduction.
    On top of that:
    the grounds were great,
    the greens fast and challenging,
    the views were stunning,
    it was empty,
    I found 3 golf balls,
    I parred 2 holes with 20 foot putts :D
and landed on the green with my tee-shot from 170m on the 15th hole.

Apart from an 8 and a couple of stupid 6s  it was a great experience and I can't wait to go back.

I've said it before, but this really is one of the hidden gems in Dublin. I would far rather play a round here than in many 'full' golf courses. Really tough greens and always in fantastic condition.

Owners are really nice. Greens are very tough and lovly views of dublin. The last time I was up there,I thought I saw a for sale sign outside the place. The course doesnt seem to be doing much business with newcastle around a mile away which is also not a bad course.

Thinking of going here on Friday for a game, just wondering what the average length of the holes are? Maybe the longest hole as well? The website gives lovely photos but no info on the distances etc.

    Cheers

Not 100% sure on the distances, but there are a few that require a 7 iron or so. One on the back 9, 15th I think, is a good 5 iron. Seen several people take 5 wood at it. There's only one hole under 100yds and it's a complete b**ch of a thing. Green like an upturned saucer and ball just rolls off in all directions...
