As the title suggests I'm new here. I've always been interested in photgraphy, more just enjoying some of the great photos I've seen around. Been spending the last half hour enjoying some of the great pics here. :)

I've decided seen that I'm on summer holidays, I'd love to take up photography and see where I go from there. Its something I'd like to see myself doing for a good while, just for interest. Need to destress before starting 6th year. Haha!!

Obviously I'm total newbie to everything......So is there any advice any of you could give me. I'll also need some sort of camera to take pictures with. ;) Could anyone recommend one that is good for starters and I'm sure I'll need a lot more advice for other things to. :D

By the looks of it all you have Flickr accounts for posting pictures and getting feedback. So I've taken the first step and done that. Also put up some stupid pictures I've taken here and there with a regular camera. Feel free to take a look but go easy on me. :)

    Think that is the link.

Not sure what else to say, all you here are the ones with the knowledge but I'm here to learn. :)

Well this is the thing..........I haven't got much of an idea of the kinda price a camera would cost. Need all the advice I can get.....The only info I can give you is I'm really new to this and am not looking for something really expensive. Probably looking at the bottom/entry level kind of camera. You know what I mean??

I like your "Big shiny ball" :-)
Your pictures look good, so entry elvel camer shouldn't be enough, I think.
You really need something what allows you to control settings.

    Try to read this: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055036861

Thanks, I love that big shiny ball. Hehe!! I just found that link earlier as well for the cameras. :D

Erm........So is there any camera you would recommend. Just thinking I suppose my budget would be around €250. Is there any camera you'd recommend for that kind of price??

I normally recommend a Canon ixus 60 for people in that
price range, but if you read through the thread in the
stickies, you will see other buyers have found other
equally good alternatives to that camera.

Welcome aboard from a fellow noob - some bark but they don't bite

As for a camera heres a great deal on a fuji bridge model. Its similar to what I started out with.

Welcome on board ... had a look at your flickr ...there is some promising work there ...

We're an odd bunch given to the odd bout of passionate outburst (actually that could be just me :o) ... but you'll get used to it ... keep your eye out for Dublin meet ups ... there you can get the chance to learn and if you ask really nicely play with some kit ... this might give you an idea of what you need ...

If you are determined that digital is your thing then you will probably want to get some sort of camera with plenty of manual settings, a good zoom, fastish lens (F2.8) ... this will enable you to learn ... there is little point in getting one that does it all for you ... you will quickly find it frustrating because you can't get it to do what you want ...

I can't offer much advice in the €250 bracket because I have not had any experience in this bracket in some time ... but I did start with the Canon Sureshot 400 ... known here as the IXUS ... this is not a bad model to start with .... or a Nikon ...

Bear in mind if you choose Canon or Nikon it is the same a choosing a religion or football team ... you will probably never change ... and you'll have lots of people telling you your wrong ... or you could go for an Olympus and everyone will just think you are strange :p

TBH you can't go far wrong with Canon, Nikon, Fuji or Olympus ... have a look at review on www.dpreview.com

It would stretch your budget ... but an entry level dSLR is probably ideal ... something like a Nikon D40 or Canon 400D ...

It's a pity you're not a moderately attractive girl, you'd have about nine pages of replies by now.
When you say you wat to buy a camera, are you aiming toward an SLR or a decent P&S?

there's a moderately attractive girl on the forum? I was wondering why the alarm was going off in my moderating chamber... by which of course I mean my pants.
