I seen somebody made a post like this about cats a while ago ... my dog died , i cant get another dog yet .. it sounds strange , but i just want to be around dogs for a while ... :D
somebody said animal shelters for the person that wanted to be around cats .. but i think animal shelters are sad .. and it would prob upset me going there ... was thinking about volurteer work but then im a bit nervous of big dogs that dont already know me .. looked at the guide dogs .. thought maybe the people that train them might want helpers to feed and wash , walk etc all the puppies but they dont really .. u have to adopt them and then giv em back , which i wouldnt want to do!
u cant really waste a dog breeders time i suppose going to see their puppies when you have no intentions of really buying any yet ..
    anyone have any suggestions ?

you could always volunteer to foster for a rescue - I don't know if that's something that would appeal or not ;)

Yes, i'd agree with fostering for a rescue. Basically you'd mind the dogs at your home for a few weeks/months until they find a proper home for them! Would be very rewarding helping give them a second chance :)

thats like what i said about the guide dogs ,, i would nt want to foster & then give away i would nt like to hav to give em away .. i would have liked to be able to go somewhere and where there is dogs , rather then me taking them away!

but you've already said that you think animal shelters are sad and you don't want to go to one cause it'd upset you- so there isn't really an in between that I can see

fostering can be extremely rewarding, as can helping out in a rescue, I have fostered numerous cats & kittens in the past & presently have a little foster dog who I've had for 4 weeks now who'll be leaving me in another 2 weeks

Pounds are sad places but most rescues I know and work with are not. The dogs are safe and await their forever homes. In the meantime they need peeps to spend time with them, walk them, groom them, socialise them. There is nothing more rewarding than to have helped like that. All my volunteers love coming here and some have come back for years. I would give it a try if I were you!

i read the only nspca shelter was in drumcondra .. i live in south dub, then i heard someone saying there was one in rathfarmham .. maybe i could try there .. im just a bit of a nervous person too. actully i used to be really afraid of all dogs before i had my own ,, now its not so bad, i just thought i might be nervous of say a adult german shepard that doesnt know me , esp if he cranky because hes came from someone that was abusing him or whatever

the dspca in rathfarnham - and I'm sure they'd love to have you help out with the doggies there - it's a common misconception about larger dogs - personally having been around dogs all my life if I had to pick a type of dog that I would be wary of it'd be the smaller yappier ones

You could find someone in your area that wants their dogs to be walked every day. An old lady near us can't walk her dog anymore so one of the neighbours does it for her every evening.
