I'm typing this post with a wireless Creative Keyboard.

It's fine, but yesterday and today the keyboard on the actual laptop (Dell, AMD Chip, Vista Basic (this was all I could aford:o )) has started acting a bit crazy.

The bit following, between the stars, is what I get when I type. I've typed left to right, first line, the numbers, then the three lines of letters, includin the character keys after them.

Normal, no Caps Lock, No Shift
    *******************************************
    `123456789/-=
    asdfgh123-'#
    \zxcvbn0,.+
    *******************************************

    Caps Lock on
    *******************************************
    `123456789/-=
    ASDFGH123-'#
    \ZXCVBN0,.+
    *******************************************

    Caps Lock off, Shift pressed
    *******************************************
¬!"£$%^ (the seven, eight and nine moved te curser around the screen)
    (J, K and L did nothing)
    ZXCVBN<+ (M and .) did nothing
    *******************************************

Italics typed with the Wireless Keyboard aswell. It's the same if I take the Wireless Keyboard out or range.

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers.

    Any water damage??
If not try doing a system restore to bring it to factory settings.
If that dont work bring it back to dell (shams) to fix it for ya.

    Does num lock do anything?

    Erm, yeah, it fixed it.

    Thanks a million mate.

What's the explanation for that then?

Num lock on means the keys with the numbers on them also can be used with the alt key to display other characters, eg alt + 225 = ß.

Ah yes. I see some of the keys have little blue characters on them off to the right.

    Thanks everyone.

Don't worry about it. Surprisingly common. First thing I think of when I hear of a keyboard problem on a laptop. (I used to do support for sony laptops)

    :D

I think you will find 99% of laptop keyboard problems are some combination of the numlock/capslock or the wrong regional settings.
