I'm sorry if this is old news...Just heard on 2FM that leinster final tomorrow will be broadcast in HD.
Couldn't find any info on rte.ie . Is this going out over SKY?

No, it will be seen on the DTT trial. Read more about it on the Terrestrial board.

    Bloody knew it....
On 2FM they gave the impression that if you had a HDTV you would get HD coverage by tuning in to rte 2

I would hope the vast majority of people would know that there is a bit more to it than tuning in RTÉ Two on a HD ready tv.

Is it true that a lot of those "HD Ready" sets aren't actually HD?

They are. But there are three levels of HD which I think gives rise to the confusion. Am no expert but in increasing quality :
Some have 720 lines per picture
Some have 1080 lines per frame but only every second line is refreshed each frame.
Some have 1080 lines per frame and refresh all ines every frame.

So it could be true to say that one TV is not as HD as another.

Well as you said they are "HD Ready", on their own they are not HD. They need a HD source, like a HD Sky box,HD or Blu Ray dvd player, PS3 and Xbox360 to name a few.

Even with a source they wont display 1080p. The tv's that will are falling in price all the time though.

Yes, most of the standard "HDready" tv's will only display 720p (or accecpt 1080i) and only a handful of tvs support "TrueHD" or 1080p.

Really though, for television boradcasts "HDready" televisions are grand, very few, if even any, broadcaster is running in 1080p due to the expanse of bandwidth it requires. Any HD signal will be in either 720p or 1080i.
