What codecs should I get if I want to play windows media files (and others) through quicktime?

I have vlc to play stuff on my computer, but if i want to watch a video stream online that is in wmv format will quicktime play it if you have the right codec?

Is there a package you can get that has many codecs for a number of formats?

Microsoft supply Flip4Mac which will play non DRM media in Windows format.

The easy install gives web streaming by default, use this.

perian and flip4mac - that's all you need. Both work fine together.
