Kiefer Sutherland has hinted that his iconic 24 character Jack Bauer might lose his good guy status for the next season.

The popular actor, fresh from an appearance at the Princess Diana Memorial Concert, told The Sun: "Bauer will be his own boss… he’s going to be on his own."

Explaining further the situation that sees the hero take a new direction for the upcoming season, Sutherland said: "At the end of the sixth season he’s tired, disillusioned with the government and doesn’t want anything more to do with the presidency."

One actor who apparently won’t be returning for the seventh season is James Morrison, who plays CTU Chief Bill Buchanan. He stated on his personal webpage that it is looking unlikely that he will return.

well what do yee all think of this??
i think it could be a good idea with alot of people not being really happy with the last series maybe this is the twist they need to freshen up the show again.

Jack going rogue? I dunno, sounds unlikely but if the writers really do mean it when they say they want to freshen things up maybe there's some truth in it.
But Jack's loyalty has always been to the American people more than the government so it would only happen if Day 7 doesn't have some kind of domestic terror threat and instead a threat to Jack himself or someone close to him.
That might require him to bend the rules a bit.

yea thats the line i was thinking also, it would have to be something very close to him for him to go bad like..

From what the writers/producers have been saying so far, I can see this series being about Jack just looking out for himself and being very reluctant to get drawn into any government stuff. His speech to Heller at the end of S6 made it pretty clear he is fed up of and feels betrayed by the government. Of course, it being 24, they'll probably find a way for him to get drawn back in and after 4 or 5 good episodes it'll turn back to formulaic sh!te again. The first 4 episodes of last season were excellent with Jack being suicidal and basically broken down, it really looked like being another fantastic season. Then they changed it and he went from being a shell to superhuman in about 20 minutes. There were too many unanswered questions (what did they trade to get him back, why is he estranged from his family) and unnecessary plotlines. During the last 2 episodes, I actually laughed out loud it was so bad, apart from his scenes with Heller and Audrey at the end.

Hopefully this time out it'll be much smaller, no nuclear/wmd terrorist threat, no ctu, no president. If its more of the same, there won't be another series or any viewers.

I think Jack would be a badass anti-hero, but I wouldn't want him going totally 'bad'.

As for Bill, I like him but I kinda figured we wouldn't see him again.

How I wish Kim gets bumped off, not by the goverment to get Jack out in the open but Kim caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Killed by a drug gang, criminal gang, Jack going mental, no thoughts on anyone, no respect for law, just vigilante Jack, no CTU,President,Nuke.

IF I could get 20 hours of Jack killing scumbags, innocent people if needs be Il accept 4 hours of him being picked up by CTU to be brought back in for the series after.

Realistically that's what I can see happening. They promise to re-invent the wheel every season and then it turns into the same terrorist plot, CTU mole, "surprise" main character death rigmarole.

I think the clock may be ticking on 24.

Yeah like at the start of season four:Jack has been fired from CTU shocker.
    2 episodes later, he's been re-instated.
