    nice report...

there was another one i saw on youtube before, from some tv station in the states, cant remember which one now, something like that would be ideal for us over here, but good luck getting an irish reporter to give a nice balanced view like that

Didn't someone, can't remember if it was here or on ASI try to get a reporter out before? I've seen this video a while back, it is indeed oldish but it remains the best example of airsoft being accepted by the media and being presented fairly. I've shown it to many people, all of whom knew nothing of airsoft apart from the fact that I have a rather imposing rifle bag in my house, and they all quite enjoyed it and founf it pretty informative. They even found my rifle bag marginally less imposing afterwards!

I can only imagine the hashed job RTÉ would make of reporting on airsoft in this country. And to be fair, it's far to early to get someone to do so in my opinion, there are virtually zero sites that play the sport at present and all it is at the moment is a group of less than 20 congregating in Swords every weekend.

Maybe when airsoft gets a little bigger should a reporter be invited to write an article on it...

I want to see Nationwide being shot in the middle of a skirmish. Just for the comic value alone. Instead of whathisname that presents it standing on a random picturesque village bridge or park somewhere, you see a guy dual wielding pistols charging forward into heavy enemy fire.
Seriously though, RTÉ would make a balls of it. I heavily doubt even the BBC could do it as well as that NZ piece. It'd be wise to give the mass media a wide berth until the sport becomes as established as some of the other newer sports. Ignorance is bliss for the masses because when Joe Public decides he doesn't agree with our little hobby then the s***storm starts. I'd rather not be in an "us versus them" situtation. The media never takes the minority side and I'd rather fight a government than fight the media.

the average number in hrta on a saturday is quickly becoming well over 20, there was 26 today (possibly one or two more at various stages) and this is fast becoming the norm rather than the exception, i agree that the sport should be more established before doing something similar to the NZ report, but it's growing quickly and comments like that make it seem like there is little growth, when infact the number of people finding out about airsoft and getting involved is climbing rapidly

I too thought that airsoft was growing far too slowly here. But in recent weeks I've seen a lot of new faces. I hope it continues, even though it's a pain in the ass trying to figure out who everyone is and then remembering their names. :D

well i think we should keep this on page one, and rename it something that the press can lock on to when they want to do (and they will) a piece on airsoft.

they might be less likely to nail us of they see other journalists have little or no problem with it...

I wasn't saying there was no growth, quite obviously there is, but you knew the point I was making.

26 or 28 people doesn't justify getting a reporter in, airsoft is an absolute miniscule sport in Ireland, and you could quite easily brand it as the smallest sport in the country. My point is that a reporter would love to cover the story, play all nice on the day, and turn around and print some crap about 30 lads shooting the crap out of each other in Swords. If you got a reporter in maybe a years time, when airsoft has a couple of hundred or more players, and other sites like Barrage and the like have opened their doors to airsoft, then let them report away.

All that said, can't wait to head down this Saturday, woo hoo!
