Play.com problem

Earlier in the week, after a purchase made with my 3V Visa card, I was left with €8.04, so decided to see what was available at Play.com.

At the moment, there's lots of 'sale' stuff and there I found a DVD for €7.99 which I went ahead and ordered. When I received an email saying my card had been declined, I went to look at my balance on 3V, and was greeted with the news that Play had taken £1.00/€1.48 from my account, not once, but twice, at the time of the order, leaving just a little over €5. Therefore when attempting to complete the transaction, there's not enough there, so they can't do it.

What can be done here? Has this happened anyone else here? Can they or more importantly, will they, return the money to my account and complete the order I've sent an email, but have not yet received a reply.

Some may say it's only a couple of euro, but it's MY money, not their's. It leaves just €5 in my account and virtually useless for ordering anything online.

Do they always do this? What's the point?

    Thank you

    Damo

Well, it's the wrong forum to start with, but Play are notorious for that crap. Try cancelling the order and you'll find there's no email address listed on the site and the phone numbers are rarely answered. But if they're not going to let you buy the dvd, you'd think they'd give you the couple of Euro back. They won't, but you'd think they would.

play do that to make sure you have enough cash on the card to cover the transaction, its just a little security feature they employ, if you have enough they charge you for the dvd/cd then after about 4 days you get the €1.47 back, should be in online buying and auctions as well

I think it drops off after a few days, verification thing as far as I know as mentioned.

I've been with Play.com now for a couple of years and I've been happy with them, that's not to say that people don't have problems with them.

Why did they take the €1.48 from your account?

OOPS, apologies for the wrong forum post! Mods - Please move.

If they did it once, I may understand. Then a couple of days fulfill the order. But why do it twice? In the meantime, they've got my €3 and I'm in limbo.

I tried to call, but, as Humanji said, the 'service' is unavailable at the moment. I emailed info @ play.com, but got an automated reply, but this came with another email address to reply to. A jumble of random numbers and letters @ play.com. So I replied to that. Let's see what response I get, if any.

I'll keep posting any further info, for those interested. Hopefully it will be moved by then.

    A quick update...

I checked my Play account today to see what was happening and they had cancelled the outstanding order, and repaid the money into my 3V account. As I said, it was only £2/€3 but it was mine. And it made the 3V card almost worthless. So that's nice to get that back.

    they dont take the money,
they just reserve it on your card.

when you buy anything online the seller reservers the money until the order is complete.
that means they dont have to process expensive refunds all the time for cancelled orders.
    they simplky "unreserve" the money
