Hey, so is there any decent sky plus offers about at the moment for existing Sky customers? My brother said something about where you can buy the box for a one off fee, there's no monthly fees or installation... Is that true? Or is he talking crap? I checked out the Sky website, but nothing is listed, anybody got a link?

No I think you've misunderstood... What my brother was saying is that you can buy a Sky+ box for a one off fee and use it away, provided you have a regular Sky sub. So basically it would be just buying a Sky+ box to replace our existing Sky box... Is this correct or has my brother in fact been talking crap?

There are a few other threads about this. I think it's true -- you wouldn't have to pay the €15 extra a month unless you subscribed to a premium channel as you once did, or so this page suggests.

Current offer is €149 for the box and €45 for the installation. No €15 usage any more.

It is €149 for the Sky+ box and a further €45 for the install.

They have dropped the subscription so it does not cost any extra.

They charge you for the install? Isn't it just a simple case of plug box in, plug sat wires into box, hook box upto the telly?

Or is there something extremely difficult that takes €45 to accomplish?

A Sky+ box requires two downleads from the dish, where the single LNB will be replaced with a quad LNB. A standard box of course has only one cable from dish.

€45 isn't expensive for that amount of work.

SO i just rang sky there to see if they could do me a deal or anything, my first impressions of their phone line was terrible, the sound quality was crap, the 2 people i was talking to had very thick Scottish accents, and i was on hold for well over 20 minutes...

However, eventually i got through and they told me that the box is €149, with installation of €45... He tried to offer me multi-room, so we would have gotten box for the €149, free installation and a charge of €15 a month for the multi-room... I told him i just wanted the Sky+ box so he said that possibly he could give it to us with no installation charge... That seems ok, so possibly might get it next week... But more likely not, we'll see...
