This site is pretty good as a general guide to moving to/living in Germany - all the beureaucratic stuff etc. http://www.howtogermany.com

Don't know anything about running your contracting biz there though.

Try www.toytowngermany.com ... I worked with a lot of IT contractors from everywhere while I was in Munich. Most used umbrella companies in the UK and got their wages paid there. Then they 'paid themselves' a smaller amount to avoid paying the high German tax rates...

Would I be better off getting paid through my Irish LTD company to avoid the higher tax in Germany ?

Ya but you still have to get 'paid' in Germany but doing it this way you can avoid the high tax, i.e. pay yourself less as far as the Germans are concerned... Ask on toytown, some of the lads there are contracters...

If the agency that you are working through is any way decent they should be able to give you advice on the ins & outs of working in Germany. If not, they should at least be able to put you in touch with someone who can.
