Selling classics on e-bay

    Hi

I am thinking of putting my car up on e-bay but I am not sure if it's worth it. I know that in teh UK (with its larger market) cars sell well and for fair prices but do any of you have experience of selling cars on this side of teh water? Do they attract bids and achieve a realistic market price?

I know my car is worth 15 - 18K (and would be happy with a sales price in that range). My worry is weither anyone over here uses e-bay! If there are 10,000 people looking in the UK then you should get a good run of interest and a fair price. If there are only 10 looking in Oreland then the winning bid could be 50c and a packet of crisps!

Any of you bought or sold on there?

Put up a classified ad on ebay. Car gets to be seen, no risk of messers or low or no bidding.

I've bought on ebay but it was cheap, not 15k.

No harm in putting it up there.

Since you can set your reserve to whatever you want, there's no risk involved. I had a little bit of interest in a classic I advertised this year, but not too much. Any exposure is good though.

    EDIT

Actually I just remembered the best thing about it - you can put up loads of pics, and loads of text for cheap. That way you can direct callers to the item number on eBay where they can see all the details. Autotrader & Carzone only give very limited space.

Understand about the no risk with a reserve. However, with an auction there might be a negative perception if an item attracts no or very low bids. A classified removes that perception. No idea what it costs to advertise.
I know of one guy who sold his classic via an ebay classified.

Never tried selling a classic over here on eBay.

eBay classifieds are useful, but you'll need to check the fees as they are up there with the Autotrader for cost. Just checked eBay classified are not available on eBay.ie.

I know that for selling low value cars, the fixed listing fees are ridiculously high, so people tend to try and list them as parts to only pay a percentage commission.

eBay UK has matured now, eBay IE still has a way to go.
