Looks like I got stung on Ebay over the week.

Bought myself a phone from a seller in the UK and now the sh*t is no longer an EBay member

Have set up a dispute with PayPal but I am not holding my breath.

Question is, do I have any hope of getting my money back?

The Buyer Protection on the listing doesn't cover the amount I spent on the item, does that mean I can only get back that amount as opposed to the full amount.

Any other suggestions on how to proceed? Can a chargeback from my CC work, even if the transaction was done on PayPal?

I have heard people have done it.
I have had refunds before but lost out on currency exchanges.

Post a link to the auction

Go straight to your Credit Card Company, I dont even both with Paypal disputes anymore. You pay your Credit Card enough money - doesnt matter if it's Paypal or not, it's still a transaction, and if something goes wrong then let your CC Co deal with it !

I will ring the CC company to see what I can do.

    Hi Elite,

I have sent a mail to him directly and there has been no response. I put a read receipt on the mail and it looks like he has not read the mail. :(

I see this all the time, just because the seller is no longer registered on eBay does not mean that the item will not arrive. There are many reasons why a seller's status will change to that and again, it does not guarantee that you will not get the item.

You should always allow a reasonable amount of time for the item to be delivered, that way if it gets to you damaged say, then you can claim against that.

Yep, too soon to be sure, his last feedback was only 8 july.
He is tending to sell a lot of low price items though, they do seem legitimate sales though. A common trick is selling lots of low price items cheaply, you bump up 100% 100 feedbacks for €10, then put a sting on for €500, sometimes the same buyers appear all the time, it is the same guy buying from himself, only paying the ebay fees, which are low on low price items.

Happened to me before where i bought an item that was never received and the buyer de-registered off eBay yet he did see sell stuff after me and got feedback for them. I sent a few emails no replies so in the end i launched a complaint after the period stated by eBay and got my money back after while.

When you check his feedback you can see he built up that feedback with very low paying transactions - mostly dvds and over roughly a 3 week period. This is how ebay scammers set about building up their "100%" feedback. All is revealed if you go to "view sellers other items" and then click "completed listings" on the left. There you will see the 19 items he sold about 6 July ranging in price from €45 to €638 - over £4500 worth! You are not alone, unfortunately.
