MacBook: turn off screen when using external monitor

    Hi all,

When my MacBook is on my home-office desk (which it will by most of the time) is possible to
    - configure the MacBook to (automatically) turn off the MacBook screen when the external monitor is connected via DVI.
    - then close the MacBook lid (an not go into standby)

Could closing the lid cause issues relating to overheating. I guess if the MacBook screen cant be turned off then closing the lid (and keeping system active), then closing the lid with an active screen is a No-no.

    Thanks in advance.

i have my macbook set to "allow bluetooth to wake this computer from sleep"

so when i connect my external monitor, i close the lid, wait for it to sleep, then press a few keys on my bluetooth keyboard and it wakes up.

i've used it for hours this way and never had any trouble regards overheating etc.

Attaching a USB device will wake it up by default. I close the lid and put the laptop to sleep, then when I bring it to work, I don't open the lid, I just plug in my external USB mouse and external monitor. Plugging in the mouse wakes it up from sleep and it uses the external monitor.

insomiaX lets you shut the lid without it going into standby
