    Thanks.

ordered on a Monday had it by Thursday!
I ordered a cab (that was 'in stock') on a Monday and had it by Thursday about 6 months later.. After getting (and being charged for) a bunch of stuff i'd never ordered and having to send it back etc. Big hassles. All worked out in the end.

Thomann are a bit like Goldilocks, 'when they're good, they're....' etc.

hmm......true.....I like the SMS dispatch message they send when the order is dispatched. great idea.

Ok, time to give my thomann experiences for they are varied...

Ordered guitar. They required a photocopy of the credit card. MBNA said that was a stupid idea. Eventually decided on a bank draft. Sent them the money, they recieved it, but then they said they didn't. Eventually after Bank Of Ireland taking steps to report it to the EU banking commision or whatever, Thomann found a mysterious payment for the exact amount (it was something weird like 752.31 ) and said they didn't know it was us because the name on it was Bank of Ireland, Dundrum, D.16 , which is pretty close to my address anyhows. So after that I waited about two weeks and go my guitar. Major hassle.

After that I went somewhere else to get DJing gear, think Thomann could go do something to themselves.

After avoiding them for a fair aul while, I needed some affordable bits and bobs for a PA and the Thomann own brand was the man for the job. Similar problems with the credit card but after a chat or two twas ok. Got the gear shortly afterwards.

Lighting gear - no problem with credit card, arrived in two big chunks, all groovey.

Everything since has been spot on, so they're currently still in my favour.

i've had ridiculous hassle with them on one order of 400 odd quid

i won't use them anymore, not worth it

they don't answer emails, getting onto their customer service people is a nightmare. PITA

ordered a set of v-drums off them. Took too long and they required photos of credit card. Had to ring them to get their act together - made a huge saving compared to buying in Ireland though. Hence I reccommend them

I found them very good. I ordered from them a few weeks ago (by far and away the best price on the RNC 1773) and they were pretty much on the ball. Couldn't track the package for the life of me though. Bit slow with one response, and the person you email may not actually be the one who replies, but that hardly matters.

I've been ordering from Thomann for years and I have to say that they are good, provided everything goes according to plan. My most recent order had a damaged speaker (worth €700). It took 10 weeks and an enormous amount of effort on my part to get it sorted. It actually put me off Thomann. I'm not saying that I'll never order from them again, but I will seriously consider other options before placing my next order.

Wow I never realised so many people had problems with Thomann. Will definitely be sticking with ishibashi for my next buy!

^^Cool sig to the person above me. Freddie was a legend.

Thomann have really won me back though, since the initial **** up I haven't had to wait more then a week, regardless of the size of the order.

Do they ask for photocopies of credit cards for big orders?I've never had them ask for mine...well I'm using 3v.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,472 ✭✭✭highlydebased

Never been asked for a copy of card. I know Musicstore.com (cologne) require this in the initial order according to their terms and conditions. I wish thomann would have broader selection of cheaper lighting gear, only for musicstore requires photocopy of card i would use them more for lighting

I have also experience them not answering emails. Its very annoying. Their ok over the phone though...

    Here's my story:

Ordered a guitar. Got the guitar after about a week. It was damaged. Took six weeks or so to get the damaged guitar returned and a replacement sent. They sent the replacement to Galway (invoice address) instead of Kildare (original delivery address).

Anyway, I sent them a mail letting them know my disappointment and the cost and hassle involved in travelling across the country to pick up the guitar. They apologised and offered to send a replacement to Kildare when they received the other guitar back. There were a number of days between each communication, so I ended up going to get it myself (it was a good excuse for a few scoops at home with some friends).

In my mail to them, I said that if they wanted to compensate me for all the hassle and cost, I would be happy to consider purchasing from them again.

They have sent me a few sets of strings, a guitar maintenance kit and a Thomann lanyard. And guess where they sent it....that's right ...Galway !!!!

I can only laugh!!! (but i think I will be using them again)

I think from experience (not just ordering over the net) that the Germans are the opposite to the Americans when it comes to credit card security, hence they want a photocopy etc and will often only deliver to the address on the card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,863 ✭✭✭✭crosstownk

I'm not sure, but I think they only ask for copies of a credit card once the order exceeds a certain amount. I've placed plenty of orders with them, but I've only been asked for a copy of my credit card on two occasions. The first time was 4 years ago and the second a few months back. Both orders were in excess of €1500. When sending a copy of a card, they do suggest that you blank out some of the digits for security.

AFAIK know they only ask for a photocopy of the card when the buyer is different from the name on the card - ie someone using their parent's card, etc. I've ordered from Thomann a good few times, a couple of very expensive ones, I've never been asked for a photocopy. The only gripe I had was for my first order they wouldn't ship it to my work address, but after that they did.

I've used Thomann now for nearly 4 years and only had one problem, I ordered som LCD Par 64 lamps and when I got them they didn't work. I got on to them straight away and they sent out replacements, they never requested the old ones back. I then spoke to one of the Light technicians at Thomann and he told me to check the fuses inside the lamps, which I did and I replaced, now I have 12 Par 64 LCD lamps and I only paid for 6.

I've also visited the Thomann shop, if anyone ever happens to be near there it's well worth a visit, it blew me away!

I ordered a batch of stuff recently. Including a guitar rack and some bulbs for my lights

The box was huge, due to the size of the rack. The bulbs were thrown into the box...all broken! I rang them and they agreed to send out new ones

i also have had severely contrasting experiences with them. I've got guitars/basses/keyboards/cymbals and even bits of computer-y things from them over the past 4 years and everytime it's been different.
My first order took 5 weeks to get here. My second took under 4 days.

I have filled out their credit card form only to be told that they are awaiting my bank transfer.
The photocopying of the credit card thing that make you do is a pain in the bloody arse because for some reason you always end up havin to bloody fax the thing.
And it's pretty difficult to find fax machines these days!!

However, their phone help service is brilliant, and they sort out problems immediately once you let them know.

And they are really really really really cheap!

Does anyone know how the bank transfer method of payment works? Do you give out account details or some such?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

You place an order, specifying Bank Transfer as the method of payment. They'll send you an email with the total price (which can be cheaper than normal) along with their bank details. Then you go into the bank and transfer the money.
