Sky subscription for Setanta (Rugby World Cup)

    I don't have digital TV and frankly could happily live without it only for Setanta having the rights to the Rugby World Cup this coming autumn. I emailed Setanta customer services about subscribing via Free to View Satellite but judging from their response I think it looks like I have to subscribe to Sky:

    "I can confirm that you do not need an active Sky subscription in order to receive the Setanta service.

    Providing you have Sky digital equipment and a viewing card number we can send the signal to, it is possible to subscribe to our service. If you do not have a viewing card we can supply one by calling our Customer Services Team on the number below"

    Is there any way that I can get a Sky box to receive the free to air channels & subscribe to Setanta or will I need to sign up to Sky Digital for a year in order to proceed with a Setanta subscription???

    I thought TV3 had most of the good games and Setanta has "the rest" ?

    I was under the impression that TV3 have all Ireland's games and that all the other ones are on Setanta and also that Setanta have exclusive rights to the next one in 2011...

    Setanta will show all 48 games live (40 group games, 4 QF's, 2 SF's, 3rd place playoff and final).

    All matches will be broadcast live free to view on UTV and ITV4. TV3 will have all Ireland games live. So no worries about having to take out an extra sub. :):)

    Exactly, no need to subscribe to Setanta if you have satellite. And it is free to air, not free to view as no viewing card is required.

    One thing to watch with Setanta would be your terms and conditions to any subscription.I asked how it was paid and she said it comes out of the bank monthly....i asked would it be standing order or direct debit to which they said it would be"like" a direct debit.I asked her to be more clear to which she said its something similar to a direct debit but wouldn't elaborate,which leads me to believe they can up the price/transfers from your bank account with no prior notice and you will be tied to that for the duration of your contract.It just sounded dodgy to me thats all so b4 you sign ask for the terms and conditions or be prepared to be charged more than the €18 per month

    Well thats the same as Sky. They can up the price whenever they like, if you're tied in there's nothing you can do about it. However, upping the price should reduce the number of new subscribers - so if/when Setanta increase the price I'd guess they'll do it like Sky and just up it a little bit at a time.
