whats the most common satellites that people point their dishes to?

other than the usual sky stuff, astra...

also is it easier to align a bigger dish than a smaller dish?

im after hotbird 6 and 7a are these easy to align a dish to and whats the best way to go about it? ie motorised etc

Most popular from my experience are Astra 2,1 and Hotbird. A bigger dish is slightly harder to align as it has a narrower beam width. A motor will give you access to most satellites visible (clear line of sight) from your location but if satellites are close enough together eg. Astra and hotbird a multi lnb set up allows for faster channel switching between satellites.

    Hope this helps

Nice one Tony. That 3 sat set-up you installed for me delivers more channels than I can ever watch.

    Astra 2, Astra 1, Hotbird

    Thats' my recommendation

Pal, where can I view a list of these channels?

There is a mag called What Satellite (If still in print?),which had a full listing of satellites, with a very good horizon to horizon map each month.
I suggest a one metre fixed dish, lined up on 13 degrees Hotbird,as it is the weakest, and a"little extra" bracket with a second lnb on 19 degrees.

You can switch between the satellites without the expense of a motorised system.

No need to buy a magazine, just go to www.lyngsat.com A 1m dish is not neccessary , 80cm will work fine.
