Importing pictures into iPhoto

    Hi guys,

1st of all I'm new to the Mac.
I've all my photos backed up (from old Windows PC) onto an external HD. To get the pictures onto the MacBook I used the import feature in iPhoto. Everything imported OK (all 7000 pics). However, I notice that most (but not all) of the directories are duplicated with a "_2" appended to the dir name. The "_2" dirs have a copy of most (but not all) of the pics in the original dir.

    Any idea whats going on?

    Thanks in advance.

Are those "_2" directories much smaller, or same size? If smaller, they're thumbnail folders (sorry, I barely even use iPhoto)

The images in the "_2" directories are full size. I think there is a separate directory for the thumbnails ( data dir?).

In some cases the "_2" contains the same number of original pics as, in other cases there is less.

    ?
