Broken Laptop screen

Hey, my laptop(Dell Inspiron 1100) screen is broken. The screen itself is physically fine, no cracks or scratches. The screen is just completely black. I don't know what happened, perhaps it just took a knock off something when i was carrying it.
I hooked it up to a monitor for a while and was fine temporarily while i was doing my exams. But now that im finished exams, im wondering does anyone know if this would be expensive to fix? or where is best to get it fixed? or is it even worth it? if i have to get it replaced. I don't mind spending say 700euro on a new laptop that's better if it turns out that it will cost more than 200euro to replace the screen.
    Anyway, any information is appreciated
