When I connect to my tv the audio comes throught the cowon speaker still.
    Is this to be expected?

Is the audio coming out of your TV also?

It will (probably) come out of both if you're connecting the TV to the "Line-Out" on the Cowon instead of the headphones port. If so, just turn the volume down on the Cowon and you should only hear it on the telly.

I connected from the tv out connection on the cowon to the three inputs on the side of the tv (sorry forget what they are called, I usually have my xbox 360 connected to them) and the picture is fine but no sound and the cowon speaker is a bit tinny for the living room!

Hmm... when I had an A2, I plugged the yellow (video) only into the TV and the red and white (audio) into my stereo.
