Hi folks, my sister-in-law's house got broken into last night and the bast'ds got away with her husband's new-ish D80, 18-55mm, 50mm, 70-300mm and SB600 flash all in a lowepro Computrekker bag. They're in Navan, so just beware if you hear of anyone offering any of these for a to-good-to-be-true price.

That's some kick in the teeth!
Had they recorded the serial numbers somewhere?

    oh!! bad news huh?
yeah the serial numbers would be handy, you'd get the camera's from excif data.
    I've all my stuff recorded.
There's another irish photo website that has a forum for reporting stolen items, cant think of the name of it at the mo, maybe someone here knows it.
Keep a look at Buy&Sell and the classified of the big papers too i suppose. Where else could you flog photo gear?

I've all my lenses and bodies registered on My Canon.
It's handy for situations like this.

If you have registered the gear with Nikon on the web. Then you can retrieve your serial number from there.
Sorry to hear about it. Your house insurance should cover the loss. But it's still feel like a kick in the face.

They heard yesterday that they got off lucky, compared to the house at the other end of the street where they took 6 grand's worth of stuff...

Not much consolation really, is it!

I remember when the cops were investigating a break-in at our place in Christchurch, Dublin, they told us that we were lucky because it's common for them to thrash the place & smear their faeces on the walls.

Needless to say, we sent the gardaí away & thanked our lucky stars that we were so fortunate.

Actually, in hindsight, we'd have been better off if the cops never turned up! Telling us that we were lucky as it could have been worse & that there wasn't much chance of them ever convicting anyone.
They wouldn't be long getting a convition, if we'd pushed the intruder off the balcony.

Yeah, that's it, you'd be up for trying to kill poor Johnny scumbag, and sure it isn't his fault anyway, there's no facilities for him when he's growing up and so he turned to drugs. He doesn't want to rob from people and never wanted to cause you harm, and so didn't deserve to be pushed off the balcony.

I'd say even if they were caught, there's not a whole lot that could be done unfortunately :(
