I was told that from July 1st Sky were dropping the €15 a month subscription for Sky +. But i recently got a letter from Sky saying their fees were actually going up and no mention of dropping the €15 charge.
Anyone know the story here? Have they dropped this charge or not?

    Thanks

It's gone, provided you have any form of a Sky subscription.

I joined in the last week of May, and there was no mention of the Sky+ charge in the letter explaining what I was going to be paying after the 3 months half price offer was over.

Thank you very much for this thread. When we got sky + we subscribed to the Movies as they waived the €15 charge if you had a premium package . We do watch the movies occasionally but are currently paying €70.50 for all entertainment channels plus movies plus multiroom . I also wanted to block the kids channels as they are watching way too much c**P tv. I have now cancelled everything except variety and knowledge and we'll see how we get on - it works out €34 cheaper a month. It may be cold turkey but when I found out we wre effectively paying €25.50 a month for the two movie mixes and probably only watching 2 or 3 films didn't make much sense. I'm now off to search for the thread which explains what you can get on your second sky box without paying for multiroom (ie FTA) and maybe save another €15 a month. Thanks again boards.ie!

Above link will be a start. The list was last updated in January, so some channels may have moved or closed. But a majority of channels are still there.

After three years with full movie+sports I opted to reduce my package to variety+knowledge - costs me 21.50 pm now with no charge for sky+, saving over 600 euro a year.
I was only watchbing 2 or 3 movies a month as well - it's crazy I tell ya!

I have now cancelled the multiroom - more than happy with the freeview channels available - even have Tiny Pop and Pop left for the kids which they are delighted about. So like you delah, I have gone from €71 to €22. Now I can actually catch up on all the DVDs I've accumulated that I haven't had a chance to watch.

I have a question that's somewhat related to this topic so I'll post here. If you remove the viewing card from you're Sky+ box (i.e. only FTA channels available) do the recording features of the Sky+ box still work or do you need an active subscription to use it?

You have to be a Sky subscriber (to any package), so that won't work unfortunately.

Thought as much. I've just ordered one of these though, which does practically the same thing with my DVD/HD recorder.

Not much good if you want to watch a different channel when it's recording:(
