Sky+ Query

    Hi,
I'm a longtime sky subscriber with the standard digibox installed. I want to upgrade to sky+. The thing is will the sky+ box come with its own viewing card or will I have to use the viewing card from my standard digibox? The reason I'm asking is I want to keep the standard digibox and original viewing card to set this up in another room at a later date for the free to air channels.

You won't get another viewing card with the Sky+ box. The usual routine is that you put the Sky+ box in your main viewing area and the installer moves your current digibox to another room. This involves running a second cable to the Sky+ box [two cables needed for full functionality] and a third cable to the digibox in the other room.

You can have your subscription 'mirrored' on both boxes. Just contact Sky, asking for multiroom. You'll receive another viewing card for the digibox and will then be able to watch the same channels on either set-top-box. However, it costs €15 extra per month and you need to have both devices connected to the same phone line.

If you're just going to use your current digibox for viewing FTA channels, then don't bother with multiroom. Just let the installer use your current card in the Sky+ box. The installer will have to call Sky to enable your card for the Sky+ features also.

I recently changed from Sky digibox to Sky + but the dealer took away my original Digibox and charged 200 euro for the Sky+
Was i entitled to keep the original box?

if you had been a subscriber for more than 12 months, then yes, the box was your property. Sounds strange that an installer took away your box, unless you were a subscriber for less than 12 months.

If you had it more than 12 months then you were robbed. Current price of Sky+ is €150 too. There is a standard installation fee of €40, but I think they waive that under certain circumstances.

If this is the case then I'd contact sky and tell them the installer over charged you and took your box away. That's effectively stealing.

Of course this only applies if you ordered everything through Sky. If you ordered it through an independent installer then the cost could be different, though the box should have still been yours.

You don't need a viewing card for the FTA channels. A cancelled Irish viewing card is worth squat to you anyway as it brings nothing to the box that won't work without it. An old UK sub card however will give you C4, Five and a few others.
