In what is sure to be a dynamite main event, SBG Northside Fighter/Coach John Donolly takes on UFR Fight Team member Mark O'Toole.

John is well known for having TNT in either hand and is sure to come out swinging for the fences; as he is coming off a defeat by Mark's training partner Tom at Cage Rage, this is a great chance for John to set the story straight.

Mark is well known to everyone in Irish MMA and is quickly becoming a well known face in UK MMA also. Holder of the Kage Combat middleweight title, Mark brings a durability and well roundedness that many of his opponents have found hard to deal with.

This fight will be a fitting climax to what is shaping up to be an electric card!

The Galway show will kick off with a match for the newly created UFR Junior Title. The match will feature league rules and gives junior fighters an opportunity to get into the ring and have a go.

Fighting for the belt will be Mo 'Thai' Taylor, a fast up and coming young fighter, already a veteran of the cage, who has aggressive ground game, constantly looking for submissions.

His opponent is Galway-man Micháel "The Mighty" McSweeney, veteran of many submission events and Point Blank Teen standout, this is sure to be a hotly contested bout for the newest UFR Title.

This B-Class match up is a debut ring match for both fighters:

Kevin Moran, Waterford Vale Tudo standout, comes from a Thai and Full Contact Kickboxing background, he is a long standing MMA League veteran, competing at all events in 06 and 07,he is constantly found at the top of the Welterweight Division. Packing heavy strikes in hands and feet, this tough Galway native is a handful for anyone.

Also constantly at the top of the League Welterweight division is his opponent, Stephen King, fighting out of the Straight Blast Gym under John Kavanagh, he is a tremendous grappler, and was barking at the door of the -75 kg NSC division this year also. Stephen is extremely slick on the ground and a mistake there could spell the end for his opponents.

The cliche is impossible to resist - its Striker vs Grappler!

I couldn't submit Kevin at a previous MMA League, so he's no slouch on the ground either... either that or I'm crap... I don't think he's in Stephen's class as a grappler though. Could be interesting.

As I was saying to Steve the other day, this is a great match up in terms of height, weight and build and of course style. Can't wait.

Barry Oglesby, better known as Roper to many discussion board readers, has put a lot of time into Martial Arts already: An AIMAA Black belt of some renown, he first cut his teeth in the Taekwondo ring, though has left that circuit behined many years ago now for the world of MMA. Posessing an extremely accurate counter punch and good all round striking, Barry has run out in the League and submission grappling events many times. He notched up a submission semi pro win in his ring debut and looked calm and controlled all through. Roper, is a tough guy to rattle and brings his 'A' game every time.

Kevin Croke, Sparta MMA standout and graduate of the MMA League gave a tremendous debut performance in the Ring of Truth on Saturday night, out classing his opponent in the stand up range, striking with knees almost at will, and continuing his dominance on the ground.
These two warriors are extremely well matched and it is very likely to be a back and forth tussle for dominance right from the opening bell!

ah cool that is going to be a deadly deadly fight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

Hey, really looking forward to this since I took the fight. Just watched Kevin's ROT fight and he looks like a good striker and I believe he has some ground skills to match.

I'll be doing my best to make this fight of the night. Also, to wear the most fantastic pair of shorts ever to be visited on Irish MMA, to dress like a pirate for halloween a few weeks later, and to visit my mother more often...

    Barry,
Putting all of my goals in one basket...

    Roper,

You have no idea how many times we're going to run in and ruin your matches on RAW, only to have you come back and hit Kev with the Intercontinental Belt on SMACKDOWN a few days later!

The real test will be when you and Kev have to work as a tag team against HHH & Kane. You'll win, but then turn on each other.

This will be better than The Rock - Stone Cold at Wrestlemania X7!

I have NO IDEA what you're talking about! Had to get my nephew to decipher that last post.

Andreas Lovbrand known to most MMA League competitors for his submission skills returns to Ireland for his in ring debut. Having been training with Hilti Fightcenter in Sweden, Andreas has no doubt rounded out his already very strong skill set since we last saw him.

His opponent fights out of Shika gym in Dublin and has fought on every Irish promotion, brining heavy hands and the ability to finish an opponent fast when the opportunity presents, Neill Seery's dynamite striking means every opponent he faces has to keep hands high and chin down, cause one mistake can spell disaster!

Tommy McCafferty is a new arrival to the MMA scene coming from the world of Western Boxing and full contact Kickboxing. Blazing a trail through the MMA League at present, he opened up the Galway leg with two TKO wins following up with a submission win in Limerick to put the exclamation point on his versatility!

his opponent, Shane 'T' is well known to UFR crowds having competed both there and the Semi Pro series, also lining out in front of the Dublin faithful for the Ring of Truth. Shane has a very strong background in Kyokoshin Full Contact Karate and runs an MMA gym in the East Wall, he has taken to ultimate fighting with a vengeance.

Featuring two standup maestro's this is bound to be a rock 'em sock 'em all out war!

Liam O'Toole is one of the most dynamic grapplers to come out of SBG Northside, constantly moving, transitioning and pushing hard toward that submission, Liam has proved a handful every time he has stepped on to the mat, be it in submission grappling or in the MMA League, this promising young fighter just oozes potential, that he hopes to realise when he steps into the ring for the first time in Galway.
His opponent, Adam Slawinski, fights out of Poland by way of Kilkenny where he trains in the Baltic Fighters club. Currently leading the superlight weight division in the League Adam is as tough as he is skilled, capable of absorbing punishment and coming back stronger, he is blazing a submission streak through his amateur matches.

This collision of two mat magicians will surely be a rapid fire submissions fest, first one to blink loses!

Both Paul and Keith take to the ring for the first time for this B-Class engagement and it is sure to be an exciting one: Keith is the 2006 Super Lightweight League Champ and has shown the ability to finish his fights quickly. Paul fights out of Ger Healy's school of excellence in Limerick and is sure to bring the well roundedness and tenacity Ger is so well known for.

wow another bout i can't miss.

The heavyweights have at it! Dave Kelly is stepping into the squared circle for the first time in Galway. Coming to MMA from a boxing background he has adapted quickly to Ultimate Fighting and is eager to make an impression on the Galway fans.

Dave King is a long time Kyokushinkai practitioner was blooded recently in the UFR semi pro series where he notched a win on his first outing. his excellent mobility standing and on the ground has made it very hard for his opponents to escape in the past and he hopes to keep his fledgling winning streak rolling in front of his home crowd.

After a tremendous debut in Ring of Truth, Brad Corbally had all the fans talking. A tremendous physique belying his power he unleashed devastating shots on his first opponent getting an early stoppage. Irish MMa fans have already tuned in to see how Brad's career progresses and his next fight regardless of the outcome will no doubt be a barn burner.
Brad's opponent Simon Dring, from Point Blank in Galway is also a newcomer to the Sport, making his debut against Brad in Tribal Warfare, Simon has a background in Thai boxing and Capoeira, which gives him a highly creative approach to the ground and tremendous balance. Another firecracker for the 6th of October!

John Murphy fought on a number of shows around the country at semi pro level, most recently getting a submission win in the last semi pro series. John, a black belt Taekwondo competitor of the highest level steps into the pro rules ring for the first time, in front of his home crowd. John has shown extremely fast submissions and a much improved stand up game on his last outing. John stays calm under pressure and always provides an exciting fight.

Connor Collins is a veteran of Irish MMA having fought the likes of Micky young and Robbie Walsh in the past, Connor is known for fast hands and aggressive style he likes to take the fight to his opponent and never steps on the back foot, anyone facing Connor has to keep their chin down, their hands up and bring their A Game!

Back in the ring after an impressive return to mma competition at the last semi pro series, Vinny Connolly has taken some time to mesh his very significant skills together into a better rounded package. He has used his time away from the ring to plug a few small holes in his game and the result is a new complete fighter that all Vinny's fans knew he could be. Vinny has aces on the ground and in the clinch and has spent some time stacking the deck for himself in stand up as well; he will be a tough man to stop, particularly in front of a home crowd!

His opponent however has undergone a similar transformation; Jason Muldoon has had many semi pro fights before he donned gloves for a professional encounter, reports from his camp were that Jason had found another gear and was training harder than ever before. Although his pro debut didn't go the way he would have liked, it was obvious to anyone watching that it was a different man than we had seen in previous UFRs, another small bit of experience is all it would take to unleash this powder keg of potential unto an unsuspecting Irish MMA scene. Packing a lot of muscle on for this weight category, Jason will undoubtedly be firing on all cylinders in Tribal Warfare.

Tom is one of the most experienced fighters in Ireland at the moment, having barely taken a break since starting fighting in 2003. Having joined the UFR Fight Team Tom has been accumulating lots of experience overseas in the past year and is quickly moving up the ranks over there, as well as being a top contender here. Just back from training in the Legends Gym in Hollywood, Randy Couture and Bas Rutten's franchise, he is eager to get back into the ring and cut loose once more.

Richard Taylor has been proving himself in the UFR Promotion, steadily improving in all ranges, he had a setback against Thomas Egan at the semi-pro series, but still looked capable. This will be his chance to get back to winning ways, and he will be bringing his A game.

I'm looking forward to Keith Norton's debut. I've known the kid since he was 16 and if you get past his huge gob and hairyness, you realise that he's a hell of a martial artist.

The kid's been living MA in it's different forms all his life, I've never seen a straight man with as many posters of half naked men in his bedroom before or since.

He's a multiple time Irish TKD champion, has studied more stand up styles than Pat the Baker can care to remember including TKD, Kempo and Kyo Ku Shin karate before finally realising what I've been telling him for years. MMA is the way to go. He cut his teeth in the amateur league and I expect him to make waves on the Irish pro circuit.

    Mark Leonard:
Cheers for the nice words but I will lay a beat down on you at some stage...WWE style of course ;)

    Nothing Compares:
I hope that my opponent and I can bring the fight you want to see ;)

    Im2lazy :
Thanks for the kind words and vote of confidence.
Yes we shall get enibriated to our fullest down in the lovely city of Galway provided I am not in A and E ;)

    Droc:
You have know me since I was 13 ;) [What were you doing hanging around with a 13 year old anyway?....just a question not an accusation]

You gave me most of those pics [where did you get those anyway...don't say GCN - JOKE!!!]so my penchant for wearing hotpants can be directly atributed to you.

I don't mind the slagging about the huge god but never, ever! slag of my manly sean connery inspired hairyness...coming from a guy who can only grow catlike whiskers/pubic hair for a goatee that's quite cheeky.

But I am such a man I forgive you!
I hope I can prove worthy of your kind comments.

    ciao

Tim "Mad Dog" Murphy returns to the ring after a tremendous comeback win in Ring of Truth 7, against another Ring of Truth veteran. Tim has stellar MMA credentials and never gives a poor performance. An excellent well rounded fighter, Tim also brings bags of heart and a never say die attitude that endears him to all the audiences lucky enough to see him work his magic

Alan Seery is another fighter who knows a thing or two about tenacity, bringing knockout power in both hands and a get stuck in approach he is a very exciting fighter to watch as it could all be ended by one solid connection!
Don't blink during this fight or you could miss the ending!

UFR Welterweight Title Fight: Tom Kelly - Point Blank vs Gearoid McNichol - PCC
The final match on the undercard, and what a match!
Tom is a newcomer to Mixed Martial Arts but has been a Tahi Boxing journeyman for many years. Taking to MMA quickly Tom has had tremendous success and climbed up the ranks quickly, fighting here and overseas. Having quickly improved his ground to the standard of a veteran Tom provides a very difficult riddle to solve for anyone facing him in the ring.

Gearoid is a very well rounded tough fighter that has proven incredibly hard for his opponents to finish, adding his durability to the mix, he is even more difficult to defeat as after many fighters have thrown everything including the kitchen sink at him he is still standing there moving forward, landing punishing strikes and moving inexorably towards victory

The talented newcomer versus the wily veteran for the UFR welterweight title, one for the ages!
