Is there an alternative to wiping the OS on a Mac, the way you can on a PC? Is there a CD available and is there somewhere in Dublin I can get one?

You get one with the machine.
The OSX install DVD gives you options to completely wipe the existing install, wipe it but keep your files, and a few other options.
