    Hi Everyone..

I am hoping that somebody can help me with the following.

    1. I have installed AVG anti virus.. free edition on my pc.. Not sure if this is coincidence or not but my spam level has gone through the roof... I keep getting these "undeliverable mail" messages and failed delivery reports. I am using Windows Mail and Vista.

    2. I cannot empty/ delete my deleted items folder.. I now have 5k messages there.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Not sure about it really haven't heard of any conflicts with AVG and Windows Mail but you could try asking on their own forum.

While not a solution what you could do is uninstall AVG and use Avast instead as it is compatible with Windows Mail & just as good as AVG if not better in my own opinion at least.

With AVG gone try emptying the folders now.

As for the spam filter in Windows Mail it relies on downloading updates from Windows Update to keep it's detection rules up to date so be sure to grab any updates on that.

    Thank you 8T8..

I have now uninstalled AVG and installed avast, however deleted items folder will still not empty for me.

The spam is getting worse in the last 30 mins I have received 50 emails..
    Any other ideas?

    Hmm well that is a bit odd, here are a few things you can try;

    * Click Tools->Options->Advanced->Maintenance & tick the box to empty deleted items on exit.

    * In the same window click clean up now and select "delete".

    * Click Tools->Junk E-Mail Options-> & change the filter to high or use the safe list filtering which means only those on your safe list will show in the inbox everything else goes to junk.

    * Click Tools->Options->Advanced->Maintenance & click on store folder this will tell you the location of your emails e.g.
    C:\Users\igora\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

Now click cancel to dismiss the window and open up explorer from the organize menu click "Folder & Search Options" then on the "View" tab tick the box to "Show Hidden Files & Folders".

Now with that done navigate to the folder listed above and go into the
C:\Users\igora\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders sub folder and you will see the deleted items and junk folder etc. Now go into those folders and delete whatever is in those and see if the messages are gone when you open up Windows Mail.

    * If none of the above helps then delete you current account from Windows Mail and make a new one and see how it goes after that.

    * Use Thunderbird as e-mail instead.

In Windows Mail click tools->accounts under "mail" category left click on your account to highlight it and select remove from the side menu.

This will delete your existing mail account from Windows Mail, if you want to setup your account again (hopefully now free of prior emails) click "add" and fill in the details.

Windows Mail is just a newer version of Outlook Express, make sure also that you have an administrator account and not a standard user. There is no need to remove Windows Mail from the system though if you want to you can from the control panel\programs and features\turn windows features on or off.

If you install Thunderbird it will ask to set as default email client so no need to worry about Windows Mail after that.
