Sligo customers invited to see new Intercity railcar fleet - 14th July by Corporate Communications

Iarnród Éireann has invited Sligo rail customers and residents to a sneak preview of the new Intercity railcar fleet set to roll out across the national network.

The first of the new trains will be on display at MacDiarmada Station, Sligo, this Saturday 14th July from 10am to 5pm, and all are welcome to attend.

The 183-carriage fleet will begin entering service on the Sligo-Dublin line this Autumn, the first route in the country to benefit from the new fleet.

The open day is the latest in a series taking place across the network to allow the public see the future of rail travel on our national network.

What about the new ones that were rolled out on the Cork line?

The trains used on the Dublin-Cork service are not railcars. There were 67 coaches purchased for this service that are hauled/pushed by a locomotive.

The trains such as the one on display in Sligo tomorrow will be used on all of the other radial intercity routes, i.e. Sligo, Westport, Galway, Rosslare, Tralee, Limerick and Waterford.
