I had an interview with a well known Irish company, during the interview I was told they would be in touch in two weeks either way. It's now been three weeks, which has me thinking, is this a lost cause? Any ideas?

I really really want the job!

At this stage I would say it can't do any harm to give them a phone call. Just say you were in for interview on date X and expected to hear back by date Y. Say you are just wondering has a decision been taken.

On a related note. I did an interview last week and I've just had a message asking if it's ok to check my references. Of course I said yes, go ahead. Obviously this isn't a bad sign. Just how good a sign is it though? This game of double guesing in the jobs market place is awful isn't it?

Personally (e.g. in situations where I was doing the hiring) we would only ask to check references if we had basically decided to give the person the job and wanted to make sure that they weren't lying/completely misrepresenting themselves. If you get a good reference I would expect you should be in there, good luck with it.

Thanks for that Blorg. I was kind of thinking that but I'm trying not to get excited prematurely. This job is a big change in direction for me and one I've been looking for a long time. References should be good. Both referees called me this morning saying they had been asked and asking me what I wanted them to say.

I had forgotten that I posted in this thread. Anyway, I got the job. Thanks to the boardsies who answered my questions about putting a cv together. Howpefully it won't be a skill I need again anytime soon.

I got a similar call on Monday. I got a call this morning telling me that they had trouble getting in touch with my second referee and said straight up that they would like to offer me the position as soon as this was sorted.

Turns out that I don't want the stinking job no more
