Duno if this is correct place...please move if not

ive just booked flights to Barcelona for myself n a friend.4 of my friends booked theirs last week. so i was looking at renting an apartment for the 6 of us.
has anyone every rented an apartment in Barcelona before? there seems to be loads available but im a bit baffled by the prices and that. I can get a place to accomodate 6 people for bout €1k for 5 nights but i can get same place for only 2 people for bout €600 or 4 for bout €800 if i only say there will be 2 or 4 people staying
its really cheeky but if can get away...whats there to stop someone booking the place for only 2 or 4 where theres gona be more stayin?

also anyone have an advice on what areas to stay in? 6 girls so we'd like to be close to the shops and good places to go out at niight

    any advice gratefully appreciated
    cheers

I wouldn't say I'd recommend booking for less people and overfilling - but I do it all the time and get away with it! Just have to make sure when you arrive and when you depart that you only have the correct number present and its the same people each time!! ;)

A good place to search for accommodation is Villarenters

I stayed in a place off the ramblas before, it was actually a screw up with a hostel I booked. They double booked me and a mate, and ended up renting us a fantastic apartment on carrer nou de la rambla.

if you come across that place, book it! very central, but on a side street, so not too noisy. Think it cost us about 80EUR per night. Nothing!

It was off season tho (Sept)

    Stayed here in june: www.apartmentsinbarcelona.net
Twas the Guardia complex and was very central about 3 min walk from la rambla opposite to playa catalunya which has nice restauraunts and near shops too. Very clean and had wifi too and cost about 35 each a night without using the sofabed. One of the twin rooms was a little bit small tho.

My cousin who got married there booked it so I presume she used the site.
La rambla is the main st from the big square (forget name) down to port. A bit like o connell st, it is quite commercial but leads to all the good places like the gothic quarter, playa catalunya, the port etc. The side streets are quite safe altho like anywhere at night there are pickpockets and prostitutes are also quite open but it was the best budget accomodation i've stayed in and very central. Planning to go back next may for the primavera festival.

    Try http://www.friendlyrentals.com

I have used this site and found it really good, we booked the apartment though here and had no problems.
