Half way thru a contract - can I leave?

Hey..I'm half way thru a contract, working in the IT sector. The contract was for a month but usually another contract is offered a week or so before the other one ends. But I am thinking of looking for a job with another company. So can I just leave with a weeks notice or is there any legal effects if I don't see out the whole contract? Any advice appreciated.

Is there anything written in the contract regarding a notice period for leaving?

Yep check your contract for a termination period that has to be provided by you or the employer.

If it's only a one month contract, and you're already two weeks into it, can't you just finish the contract? Especially if you don't have another job lined up already!

By the time you apply for another job, have an interview, get feedback, agree terms & sign a new contract the current contract will have expired.

Unless, of course, you are on a 1 month rolling contract. In which case you need check the termination clause in the contract or just don't renew it.

I don't see the big deal really as most clients will expect that you will have to work a 1 month notice period anyway.
